U19s WIN EXTRAORDINARY QUARTER FINAL!

Our U19s played Bentley CC in the Ravi Bopara (Essex) U19 T20 Quarter Final yesterday morning.

Bentley won the toss and elected to bat, with BSCC getting off to an excellent start with Will Lambert taking 2 early wickets for very few runs, including an outstanding caught and bowled.
Bentley’s opener and number four then out on a solid 60 partnership, with their opener playing particularly well for his 44. Liams Mays was the man to get both set batters, as Bentley struggled to deal with him spinning the ball both ways. Liam finished which a much deserved 3-29 including the two big wickets. Harry Olorenshaw and Kieran Surujbally both bowled accurately and economically at the lower order and took 3 wickets between them. Will Cutlan-Smyth was outstanding in the field as usual, completing two run outs from deep mid wicket.
Bentley ended up all out for 101 in 19.3 overs.

Heading into the chase, one of our batters, Will Cutlan-Smyth, had to leave for work at 11:30am with our innings starting at 11:20am, and he asked me if there was any point in him batting, to which I said he may as well go out and face the first over and try to get us off to a decent start. It’s fair to say he did better than a decent start as he hit their skipper for 24 runs off the first over including 3 4s and a huge 6! It was an extraordinary cameo that was then matched by Murray Davidson, who not to be outdone hit 3 huge 6s on his way to 40 off just 17 balls. He fell to a good high catch, with Harry Olorenshaw (23*) and Benjy Furrer (9*) finishing the game off in equally quick time chasing 104 in just 40 balls (6.4 overs!)

It was an incredible performance from the lads as we now head into the Semi Final against Colchester, Saffron Walden or Billericay.
