BSCC U19s beat Hornchurch by 56 runs

BSCC U19s went away to Hornchurch yesterday in the second group game of the Ravi Bopara U19 Essex competition.

We lost the toss and were asked to bat. We lost an early wicket, however Murray Davidson got us off to a flyer as usual until he was well caught for a quick fire 27. Will Cutlan-Smyth and Benjy Furrer then combined for a flamboyant partnership full of sweeps, reverse sweeps and ramps until Benjy chopped on for 16. Will CS kept going scoring boundaries all round the ground passing his 50 just as Aidan Murphy came in and replaced clever touch batting with pure aggression. We lost Will CS for an excellent 71 and Aidan for a hard hitting 32 in succession, which brought Tom Howes and U19 debutant Austin Osborne together. Both lads played excellent shots with Howesy showing the kind of wrists Jos Buttler would’ve proud of as he hit 32* off just 16 balls and Austin also scoring an impressive 15* off just 7 balls.
We finished on 209-5 in our 20 overs.

In response, Sam Robinson opened the bowling and made two early breakthroughs on a pitch offering a good amount of spin. One was an excellent stumping from Benjy Furrer. Hornchurch’s best batter and their captain then put on a solid 80 partnership, which gave them a sniff. However Aidan came on to remove their captain, quickly followed by Sam coming back to remove their No.3 for a well played 62. Will Lambert also took a wicket in the final over with Harry Olorenshaw taking a skier. Hornchurch finished 153-5 in their 20 overs.

Overall, it was a solid performance, Will CS was outstanding with the bat, with Murray, Aidan and Howesy all batting very well too. In response, we weren’t quite at our best with ball and certainly not in the field, however we did more than enough to win the game.

Our next game is away to Hutton on Tuesday 12th July where we will hope to make it 3/3 wins.
