Its the nature of women and girls cricket that the next round of the Lady Taverners cup took us to Melton in the depths of the Suffolk countryside beyond Ipswich. BSCC lost the toss and batted. Mabel and Elizabeth then remaining unbeaten on 190 with Mabel left on 99 not out and Elizabeth on 65 not out. A good pitch, fast outfield, only 8 players per side and short boundaries left us uncertain whether we had enough.
Then a brilliant batting display from Melton showed us we didn't racing to 102 in the first ten overs, as Stortford struggling to contain the eventual centurion Evie Booker and her partners. only pegging them back by 2 wickets. One brilliant highlight being them recalling a batter who walked and umpires would have given out, but the Stortford girls believed her to have hit the ball into the ground and called her back, to go on and help win the game. Truly the right spirit of the game. Lessons to learn and reflect on, and hats off to a brilliant batting display from a girl with a future.
Player of the Match - Mabel Reid 99 not out.
