Darren - game against Belmont Saturday 15th November - worth looking! http://www.theherald.com.au/news/local/sport/cricket/whittingham-presses-claims-for-representative-reward/1361702.aspx
It's been a great year for Bishop's Stortford CC, culminating in a tremendous day on Friday (19th) when John Crawley brought some Hampshire players to Cricketfield Lane for his 20:20 Benefit game against a David Hughes Hertfordshire XI. The sun shone and it was a most enjoyable day for all and we hope substantial money was raised for John and his charity - Multiple Sclerosis. The Herfordshire XI failed to chase the total by just 5 runs - result on website.
As for the league season - 1st XI took Potters Bar to the penultimate game of the season in pursuit of the Home Counties Premier Cricket League - Div 2 East Championship. Finishing 2nd place in our first season back in the top division was a great effort achieved through a fantastic squad led by David Hughes.
Doing the double over Sawbridgeworth is also worth a mention.
A semi-final defeat to Ealing in the Evening Standard Cup denied the team a place at The Oval for the final but will stand them in good stead for the years to come.
2nd XI also enjoyed a great season finishing 2nd in Herts County Div 3 behind Harpenden (who we beat by 10wkts!) and thus securing promotion to Div 2 for 2009 season. Well done to all involved!
3rd XI capped a great year by finishing 2nd in Herts & Essex League Div 2. They gained promotion back to Div 1 next year at the first attempt.
4th XI held their own in Div 5 and will look to promotion in 2009.
Last but not least, our ladies have had a great season winning every match they played. Well done to all involved!
Have a great winter. Look forward to seeing you all back for nets in the New Year.
Regards,
Smudger
