Stortford U15 girls knew it would be a tough trip to Chelmsford who have strong reputation in women and girls cricket. They lost the toss and were asked to bat, from the start Elizabeth and Mabel attacked the bowling and put pressure on the fielding side with decisive running and punishing the bad ball. Mabel and Elizabeth got to 50s and then Mabel was unlucky to be run out from a strong straight drive from Elizabeth being deflected by the bowlers foot onto the non-strikers stumps. Suzy was then bowled by a good ball bringing Millie to the crease to continue to move the score along to 168-2. Elizabeth finishing on 72 no and Millie 16 no.
In reply Chelmsford struggled to match the run rate at first but began to accumulate enough runs to keep them in the game. breaking the strong opening partnership was key and Flo made the breakthrough, with Poppy then removing the opposition captain and number 3. However the Chelmsford and Essex opener Abbi accelerated and turned the game towards Chelmsford with some big hitting, including a 6 into pond! Captain Clune then turned a Mabel and herself to destroy any hopes of a Chelmsford win. The Captain removing the "gun" player for 54 but failing to complete a hat trick, only for Mabel to take 2 quick wickets and the game was finished off by a deserved second wicket for Flo.
Some wonderful cricket on display and brilliant Stortford girls win to take them on their travels for the next round.
