A lovely sunny evening for our first away game of the season.
Radlett won the toss and elected to bowl first.
The BSCC girls batted well despite the Radlett bowling being hit and miss. Boundary hits came from Grace, Sami, Saoirse and Cerys (with a lovely back to back boundary). Despite some sloppy Radlett bowling, the girls took advantage of singles where they could and communicated well in their pairs. A few wickets were taken by Radlett including one unlucky one which grazed the bowlers hands and dropped onto the stumps for an unlucky BSCC run-out. We scored 63 runs and with extras this took us to a target for Radlett of 264.
For Radlett's innings, we bowled well and the girls kept positive throughout. With Saoirse as Captain, it was great to see them being more vocal on the pitch and encouraging each other. Wickets were taken by Grace (2), Mattie (2), Aggie (2) and Ella with some tight keeping from Cerys who had the sun directly in her eyes for the whole innings. Unfortunately some occasional mis-fields meant Radlett took advantage to sneak in some 1's and 2's that could have been avoided. In the end it went down to the last ball of the game and despite some fast and accurate bowling from Grace, who kept her cool under pressure in the last over, we just fell short.
Despite scoring more runs the extras decided the game (and were perhaps not truly reflective of the game as we saw it) with Radlett ending on 268 - but the girls were still smiling at the end.
Player of the match goes to Grace for her strong batting and bowling, for keeping the girls geed up throughout and staying calm for that last over.
Thank you to all the parents who made the journey to Radlett on a Friday evening and to Aggie's mum for the cupcakes and keeping the scoreboard up to date!
