U10 lost their semi final encounter with Shenley Village by 43 runs to dent any hopes of returning hope with a medal. Batting first, U10 toiled on a grassy and bumpy pitch on Radlett CC's bottom ground. They made just 69 runs from their 100 balls, losing 5 wickets to set Shenley Village a target of 245 to win.
The bowling at this stage of the tournament was inevitably straight and accurate but U10 did not do themselves justice with the bat. They may have been flustered by the big occasion, the distant boundary (found only once by Teddy), and the slow outfield but ultimately U10 didn't execute the basics well enough. The scoreboard didn't move quickly enough until a late rally from final pair Bradley and Aaron, who top scored with 11 not out.
U10 put everything into their bowling and fielding and were rewarded with 8 wickets in the innings (3 more than Shenley Village)! 2 wickets each for Hugo and Freddie, 1 for Farai and 1 for Teddy capped a decent effort with the ball but ultimately this game was won and lost with the bat. Shenley Village scored easily and frequently with excellent footwork at the crease and good shot selection. They closed their innings with a net score of 287 runs to secure their place in the U10 final.
As for U10, it's been a fabulous season and very enjoyable watching them develop as players and a team and I am sure they will use this to experience to achieve greater success in the future!
