A superb advert for junior cricket, a lovely late-summer evening, and a close and hard fought game, played in the right spirit by both sides.
Lions won the toss and bowled first and a strong looking bowling attack delivered a disciplined and controlled performance.
Early wickets were hard to come by, but so were boundaries, as The Lions generally kept the scoring rate under control throughout.
There were a couple of dropped catches, but 2 wickets for Harry F and a couple of late wickets for Tate B, plus a run out, limited Broxbourne to a par score of 117 for 5.
In reply, The Lions started steadily. Tom F scored a well-crafted 25, which left us 43-1 at 10 overs.
Challenged to up the scoring rate, particularly by running harder between the wickets, the batsmen responded superbly in the final 10 overs.
Lewis G accelerated from a slow start with some strong shots down the ground, falling just short of retirement.
Olly S was the pick of the batsmen, putting the fielders under pressure, and hitting some classy shots in a quick-fire 25.
Alex B kept up the momentum really well, and the lions were on course, before a stumble in the 18th over - 3 wickets fell to some big-turning leggies.
With the game back in the balance, Ethan H kept his head admirably and got the lions over the line with 2 balls to spare.
Overall, this was a great all-round team effort from the Lions to beat a strong and unbeaten Broxbourne team - where everyone contributed positively. The result ultimately knocks Broxbourne out of the competition on run rate.
A fantastic final match of the season for some and a first victory over Broxbourne for many (and assistant coaches)!
