BSCC U12s made it 7 wins out of 7 against last years Essex cup (BTT) champions with a near perfect all round performance!
We were put in to bat on a slow wet wicket, with our regular openers Ben Foster and Charlie Laking starting us off. We started ok, before Ben was out LBW for 14. Jamie Ward came in and combined with Charlie to put on 26 before Jamie was bowled out for 3. Zac Saunders and Daniel Laskey quickly followed Jamie back as we went from 45-1 to 50-4. We knew we needed a partnership to get us to a good total and we got that and then some! Charlie combined with Paddy Ainsworth-Ledwidge to put on 88 to take us to 139-5 in our 25 overs. It was a seriously high quality partnership with both players starting sensibly before exploding with a flurry of boundaries at the end. Paddy finished with an excellent 32 but the star of the innings was Charlie Laking with 60* at close to a run a ball in tough/wet conditions!
We knew we had a good total and the bowling attack to defend it, but not even I expected us to bowl and field as well as we did! Yet again, Paddy and Lucas Dordoy set the tone, taking 3 wickets between them for very few runs. The spin twins of Ben and Thomas Greenhill took a couple of wickets each too. Omar Sain, Stanley Gay and Jake Curtis all come on and bowled well, but the amazing part is we didn’t bowl and single wide or no ball in very wet conditions!
Finally and probably most pleasing for me, our fielding was excellent, with us taking all three catching chances we created and completing 2 run outs. Omar’s run out was particularly impressive, safe to say the SW player didn’t expect Omar’s arm to be as good as it was!
We bowled them out for just 32 runs in 14 overs, meaning we won by 107 runs against last years champions! (Albeit it was a largely changed team)
Thanks again to Pete Curtis for umpiring! We will hope to continue the winning start in the BTT next Sunday away at Coggeshall at 9.30am!
And yes that’s a 9.30am START away at Coggeshall next Sunday...
