We lost the toss on a rainy miserable evening and Hertford chose to bat first. Samuel and Matthew L bowled an excellent line and were rewarded with the first wicket as Matthew clean bowled the opener and did the same again soon after only to have it ruled out for a No-ball for overstepping the crease. Their No's 2 & 3 went on the attack hitting some good boundaries as Liam and Toby struggled with a wet ball but Toby came back with 2 wickets including a fine catch by wicket keeper Tate and when their No 5 was LBW to Liam from his last ball we started to get on top. Griff bowled superbly picking up 2 wickets for only 8 runs in 4 overs supported by Robert and 2 tight overs from Archie as they finished on 107-7 which included 30 extras.
Liam and Vishal started confidently hitting boundaries off their very fast opening bowler who made the breakthrough in the 5th over as he bowled Vishal and Ben in successive balls. Tate opened his account with a beautiful 6 over square leg but was bowled soon after but Thomas provided excellent support to Liam, who retired on 33 not out. Toby took over the reins with 4 excellent boundaries in his 20 runs and after he was unluckily bowled round his legs it was left to Griff (8no) and Robert (5no) to see us home with 2 overs to spare. It was a cold and wet evening but this does not excuse a number of fielders trying unsuccessfully to stop the ball with their feet - this can easily lead to broken ankles so please remember to use your hands.
