U13 EAGLES BEAT HERTFORD TO REACH HJL QUARTER FINALS

The U13 Eagles made it an impressive '9 wins out of 10' this Summer and thus secured top spot in their HJL division, to guarantee a 'home quarter final tie' next week.

We won the toss and decided to bat on what was a fantastic home track as always. Max Foster set a nice platform with his top score of the season (21), which included one huge six in to the top of the oak tree between the 2 grounds. 3 of the boys then ensured a very healthy target of 158 was set, as all 3 of them retired ‘not out’:- Olly Sturrock (32 from 19 balls), Luca Livermore (30 from 24 balls) and Charlie Waugh (32 from 26 balls). The running between the wickets was the best it has been all season. . . as 1’s became 2’s. . .and 2’s became 3’s.

The Hertford reply was quickly in tatters, largely thanks to the impressive (M.O.M.) Ethan DT, who returned with figures of 3 overs, 4 wickets for just 10 runs. The returning Sam McGinn also bowled nicely for his 2 wickets following a broken thumb - welcome back Sam! Max Foster and Ciaran Wilson also picked up a wicket each, as Herford finished 60 runs short of their target - at 98 for the loss of 9 wickets.

So whilst this is a moment to celebrate - with it being the first time that this age group has ever actually 'won the division' - the next 14 days will tell the full story.

A home quarter final on Sunday or Monday coming awaits. . .and then possibly beyond. Whatever happens, we can be extremely proud of this group who continue to play cricket the right way.
