U13 EAGLES WIN AWAY AT BROXBOURNE TO EDGE CLOSER TO QF'S

Clinical run chase follows a strong start with the ball
The U13 Eagles won on the road at Broxbourne yesterday evening, completing the double over their arch-rivals for the very 1st time. That makes it 8 wins out of 9, so, with just 1 game remaining, a win on Monday evening at home to Hertford will secure 'top spot' for the age group for the very first time.
The Eagles elected to field & started with a real 'bang'. Will Hodges (3 overs, 2 wickets for 6 runs) bowled with pace and consistency, with Will Richardson taking a stunning one handed diving catch at cover for the first wicket. Ethan Hill also picked up a key scalp, to leave Broxbourne struggling at just 12 for 3 after 5 overs.
But credit where it's due, as the hosts battled back to post a total of 125-5 from their 20 overs. Spinner Richardson impressed again, conceding just 5 runs from his 2 overs. There was also a wicket apiece for Frank Partridge and Tom Foden. Overall The Eagles will need to bowl with a tighter line and length, if they want to go deeper in to the competition. Also the fielding was lethargic at times, so concentration is required for the full 20 overs of the opposition innings. We know we can do better!
We always felt however that a run a ball was 'get-able' on such a small ground and with such a fast outfield. . . .and so it proved.
Openers Ciaran Wilson (33 not out retired) and Hodges (27) got us to 50 without loss after just 6 overs, with some controlled and intelligent aggression. They set the perfect platform and Luca Livermore (12 runs) batting at 3 for the first time, rotated the strike well at around a run a ball to take the score up to 100. But it was Charlie Waugh - who batted quite beautifully for his 30 not out (retired) - who stole the show towards the end - to put us within touching distance. Ethan Hill (11 not out) ensured the victory target was reached with a full 14 balls to spare.
It was indeed an impressive performance most notably with the bat. But man of the match and captain Hodges will know that he'll need to get 'even more' out of his team, especially with the ball, but also in the field. . . if we want to go the full distance. . .
