Our U13 team 3 were treated to a lovely covered track on the main square at Broxbourne on the only sunny evening of the week. Broxbourne won the toss and opted to bat. We would have made the same choice as it looked like a cracking pitch to set a total. Broxbourne batted well and wickets were few and far between. We bowled and fielded well as a unit and retained Broxbourne to 125 for 2, which seemed like a score we could chase down if we batted well.
Our innings got off to a great start with opener Jack Tumelty retiring on 25 off 25 balls. In came Rees Green, who retired only 12 balls later with some sublime powers hitting. Eddie Fallon scored a lovely 23 before an unfortunate run out from an athletic piece of fielding.
After 10 overs we were 77 for 2 with a great platform set. With our best batters now back in the changing room, the rest battled to get to the target. Wickets fell, but the scoreboard kept ticking over. We required 8 off the last over with Kimball and Thomas Cunningham at the wicket. They only managed one single from the first three balls and Broxbourne seemed in control. Then Thomas clipped a lovely shot off his legs to backwards square and they ran 3. Kimball was now on strike needing 4 runs with just 2 balls remaining.
The next ball was a low full toss and Kimball middled it to punch it straight back past the bowler for 4.
What a great team performance and thrilling finish. Congratulations all round, making it three wins out of three for the summer league - with 1 game to play. Thanks to Andy Pickup for covering the game.
