U13’s WIN Q-F TO REACH 'HJL COUNTY FINALS DAY'

7 wicket victory ensures '3rd consecutive appearance' at season finale for this thriving age group
The U13's beat Cokenach by 7 wickets on Monday evening to reach the Hertfordshire U13’s County Cricket Finals Day for the 3rd season in a row. The season finale will take place at West Herts CC this coming Sunday 16 July.
There was an almost autumnal feel in the air, as the leaves and a brisk breeze blew across Cricketfield Lane.
Captain Will Hodges won the toss and elected to field, but BSCC gave away far too many extras and did not bowl with their usual consistent line and length. The fielding was also lapse at times which was frustrating. Ethan Hill and Tate Barham bowled with real pace, whilst conceding no extras whatsoever, but overall the team lacked energy and perhaps suffered from some Quarter Final nerves? Cokenach amassed a competitive total of 131 for the loss of 2 wickets, so BSCC would need to score at least 6.5 runs an over to reach their target in the allotted 20 overs.
Bat 'sensibly' was the plan and to 'keep wickets in hand' for the latter part of the innings.
Hodges (26) and Ciaran Wilson (14) put on a steady opening partnership of 53 in 8.4 overs, to leave a solid platform for the middle order. Olly Sturrock (28 not out from 22 balls) and Luca Livermore (26 not out from 20 balls) then guided the team home with some powerful hitting to ensure victory was achieved with a full 12 balls to spare. The way the pair accelerated in the latter stages was extremely impressive and ultimately game defining.
It was certainly not the best performance of the season, but the boys showed character to battle back and win quite comfortably in the end.
So finals day beckons once again, but if we are to 'reach new heights' then the team will certainly need to 'up their game' in the field on Sunday.
