Stortford completed what turned out to be a comfortable win in the 1st round of the U13 National Knockout. Joe H and Alex started well with Joe hitting 2 strong boundaries but both were to fall to good deliveries from the opening bowler but James and Sam took over with James hitting 6 4s in a rapid 31 not out. His retirement and the loss of Joe G for 1 and Sam for 12 left us 84-5 at halfway. This meant we had to be more cautious with the lower order picking up lots of singles but we still lost wickets regularly so ended on 115 all out, which is somewhat below par.
The 2 Reed openers started well against some wayward bowling but as soon as Tom cleaned bowled 1 and the other being run out it was clear they lacked any other dangerous batsmen and they ended 58 all out with Tom and Jack C taking 3 wickets each, Luca 2 in 2 balls and Alex 1 from a Joe G stumping. We should expect a much tougher game in Round 2.
