On another very hot day of junior cricket, the BSCC U13 Bs loss to High Roding in a 25 over friendly.
High Roding made 145-5, with wickets shared by Herbie MacLeod, Jake Curtis, Euan Hardie, Oscar Gouldson and TJ Tyndall. We bowled and fielded pretty well for the most part, and had them 111-5 after 22 overs, however some strong late hitting from BSCC member Bertie Warnes took them to an impressive 145. The highlight was a fantastic diving catch from keeper Matt Reader to remove one of High Roding’s best players.
In response, we batted pretty poorly, losing wickets regularly, mostly Bowled/LBW as we swung across the line too often. It wasn’t a surprise that the 3 batsmen that applied themselves and blocked the straight ones (Matt/Euan/TJ) were the ones who got decent scores.
It’s a good learning point for the lads, as they aim to improve as a side. It’s not a case of the boys can’t hit the ball, they can all hit boundaries, however they also need to be able to apply themselves and show a defensive technique to accurate bowling.
We’ve now got a week off before next weeks inter squad friendly
