On a damp late Summer evening at BSCC, the U13s had a fantastic inter squad match tonight.
Henry Hawkins XI won the toss and chose to bowl against Charlie Laking’s XI. Charlie very much set the tone scoring quickly alongside Jamie Ward (22) until he fell to Herbie MacLeod. Charlie carried on scoring quickly now with TJ Tyndall (18*) until he reached his excellent half century, finishing 52* retired. There was still time for some late big hitting, in particular from Bertie Warnes who whacked 38* off 24 balls! Charlie’s XI finished with 177-3 in their 30 overs. There was a wicket a piece for Herbie MacLeod, George Lello and Omar Sain.
In response Ethan Baker took the early wicket of Harry Pigram before an extraordinary 130 partnership between Henry Hawkins (50*) and Thomas Greenhill (50*) put Henry’s XI massively on top. It’s hard to underestimate how good both Thomas and Henry played, combining solid technique with fantastic ball striking. Once both retired, the new batsmen still needed 50 to win off 10 overs and Charlie’s XI came back into it taking a couple of wickets, however George Lello stayed until the end scoring an excellent 27 not out, including hitting the winning runs with just 3 balls to spare.
It was a really enjoyable game, albeit in not so nice conditions. To have 360 runs scored by our team tonight is incredible, and hats off to the 3 lads (in picture) who all scored 50s tonight.
