BSCC U13s win in the heat!

In the 32 degree heat, BSCC U13 A beat West Essex at Matching Green today. The pitch was very green and tough to score on, however there was also a one very small boundary so it made for an interesting game!

BSCC batted first with a very solid opening partnership between Thomas Greenhill (38) and Charlie Laking (22), before some very poor calling meant Charlie was run out. Not long after, Thomas was also run out to equally poor calling. In between the run outs we also lost the in form Ben Foster, so we were in a precarious spot. However, not for the first time this season, Zac Saunders batted fantastically, scoring almost freely on a classic green village wicket, which was very impressive. Zac finished with 49* as he guided us to 154-6 in our 30 overs. Henry Hawkins (BSCC’s U13A regular keeper) actually played for West Essex today to balance the sides, and kept excellently against us taking a run out and a stumping and conceding 0 byes.

In response, BSCC started excellently with Ethan Baker and Harry Pigram conceding just 14 runs off the first 6 overs. West Essex came back into it a bit with one opener scoring a few boundaries before Omar Sain managed to run him out. Henry Hawkins was next out, chopping on off Ben Foster for 17. From then on we kept a lid on the run rate throughout, taking wickets every now and then. The wickets were shared with 1 each for Ethan Baker, Harry Pigram, Sam Chapman, Omar Sain and Jake Curtis, and 2 each for Ben Foster and Lucas Dordoy. West Essex finished 127 all out.

I was very happy with the lads effort today, especially baring in mind the extreme heat! Bar 3 very silly run outs in our batting innings, we were pretty good all round today. The A team have now got a bit of a break before our next match in 10 days time.
