We (the U13s) went into this game unbeaten, with three very good performances so far, however it's fair to say the same could not be said for tonight.
We batted first and I decided to reverse the batting order. I was impressed with how the regular lower order did, with many of them retiring, with the standouts being Paddy A-L's 21*, Thomas Greenhill's 21 and a late 25* from Jamie Ward. We finished with 124-5 in our 25 overs, which baring in mind we reversed our order, I was happy with.
Unfortunately, our bowling performance was not as positive as the batting, as we proceeded to bowl and field very poorly. Our normal high standards of bowling very accurately went out the window, as we bowled 16 wides and gave the batsmen a few easy scoring shots early on. There was also some excellent ball striking from the U14s batsmen with 3 of their batsmen retiring. We did improve in the second half of the innings, taking a few late wickets, which meant the U14s finished 131-7, 7 runs ahead with a few overs to spare.
It was a bit of a wake up call for our lads today after a few very positive games. It's good to for them to learn that you can't let your standards slip, especially against strong opposition. Tomorrow in training, we will be doing a LOT of work on our fielding as it was below par again today. We now look forward to the next game on Monday against West Essex.
Congrats to the BSCC U14 team for a very solid performance and win!
