Having had the previous fixtures rearranged twice we finally played Welwyn Garden City on a very damp pitch in gloomy cold conditions. The hosts put us in to bat and with debutant Damien and Will opening we put on a very rapid 35 for the first wicket. Damien was first out, caught having made a very clinical 25 in his first innings for BSCC.
From this point the run rate slowed dramatically and we had a bit of a collapse in the middle. Will D and Freddie just made double figures. After 14 overs we were looking very shaky on 72 for 8 but Matt L and Noah steadied the ship nicely with a 30 run partnership, Matt making a very decent 23 with some lovely boundaries.
We scrambled to 104 all out which looked a modest total and we needed a mighty effort in the bowling and fielding to stand any chance. The boys duly answered the call and it was our best bowling/fielding show of the season. We have very few extras and everyone was sharp in the field. While everyone bowled very tightly a special mention has to go to the first change pair of Freddie and Damien picking up 3 wickets and 4 wickets respectively all of which were clean bowled. With an over to go WGC needed 13 to win. Freddie bowled a tidy over and they only managed to get to 99 for 9.
Well done everyone. A really fantastic effort. Man of match has to go to debutant, Damien who made 25 with the bat and took 4 wickets for 17 runs.
A great win!!!
