On a gloomy night at Cricketfield Lane, we won the toss and put St Margaretsbury in to bat. They arrived with their usual strong batting line up and they showed their full potential, giving our bowlers a pretty tough time. We bowled a few too many wides/no balls which cost us over 30 runs. Our fielding was frustrating tonight and most of the team know they need to commit to getting properly behind the ball to stop it. Will S and JP took a wicket and JP chipped in with a superb run out. The opposition finished up on 151 off their 20 overs.
Will D and Ben opened the batting under strict instructions to get on with it from the first ball, and they didn’t disappoint. They kept us pretty much up with the run rate, and they both retired making 31 and 30 respectively. A really positive opening partnership! With the run rate on track and with our two big hitters, Will H and Freddie coming together, we looked like we might make it a very close game. Will and Freddie batted well in the fading light against some tricky spin, but just never quite found their top form and the game slowly slipped away from us. Will H was 21 not out and Freddie made 25. Jake made a few quick runs trying to slap it about but the game had gone by then and we finished on a creditable 130/2.
Man of the match goes jointly to Ben and Will D for a magnificent opening partnership, with particular mention to Will for a rapid 31 using no less than 3 different bats!!
