Hertford v BSCC U13

This was a crucial game for us as Hertford were unbeaten this season and it turned out more exciting than the England football finish. Batting first Hertford took 7 off the first over from Finley but them Sam Harrison followed with a double wicket maiden bowling 2 key batsmen. After a few overs of rebuilding Edward made another breakthrough as their No4 played on. A good catch from Liam off Sam Caton and an excellent catch from wicketkeeper Archie from Liam kept them in check and despite their opener retiring on 30 not out they were unable to accelerate against more tidy overs from Toby, Sam H, Edward and Finley and 2 good catches from Edward kept them down to 92-8 in their 20 overs. Sam H took the bowling honours with 4-1-15-3.
Despite losing Archie to a fast yorker Jake and Liam accumulated nicely seeing off 2 further overs from their very quick bowler and just as we looked like we were cruising at 48-1 Liam was bowled but Toby carried on making a solid 8 until he was well caught down the leg side. This prompted their opening bowler to come back for his final over and with the light fading he produced 6 very quick deliveries taking the wickets of Thomas, Edward and George all clean bowled which probably made them favourites. Jake was then bowled for a well made 13 leaving us on 60-7 with only 5 overs to go. Sam H took the attack to the bowling while Griff kept taking singles and helped by a few wides we crept closer to their score and needed 14 from the last 2. After only getting 5 in the next and losing Sam we needed 9 to win off the last and after a couple of singles we still wanted 7 from 2 balls. A no ball produced another single so 5 off 2 required so Griff played an amazing shot to smash it for six over square leg and into the trees - what a win!!
