Having elected to field first we bowled very tightly with both Finley and Sam H conceding 9 runs from their 3 overs and Sam picking up a wicket thanks to Archie's diving catch behind. Matthew C and Edward continued the good work and Archie took another catch for Edward to remove the other opener leaving them 29-2 after 10 overs. Unfortunately Hertford then started to hit out at everything and despite Liam taking 2 wickets in 2 balls no-one could stem the flow of runs and they ended on 114-5 with Griff taking a wicket in the last over, but this was a very gettable total.
Liam and Thomas H started well until Liam was bowled for 11 and then Jake played some nice attacking shots but was caught also for 11. Toby played a glorious back foot drive through the covers and made 14 until he was bowled while Thomas hit 5 boundaries in his 30 not out but we struggled to get ahead of the required rate and despite strong hitting from Matthew (18no) the field was set well back and we were not able to accelerate early enough and we finished a disappointing 7 runs short with only 4 wickets down. On a positive note we only bowled 1 wide today which is a vast improvement on previous matches so hopefully we can keep that going.
Our final league fixture is against Broxbourne and we probably need a win to qualify for the quarter finals.
