North Enfield v BSCC U13

This game produced much tension and excitement but one where the bowling outclassed the batting by some distance. NE won the toss and asked Stortford to bat first with Edward and Will taking a few early singles, only for Will to chip one in the air in the 2nd over to be caught. Matthew was clean bowled first ball and Vishal soon followed. Edward struck 2 nice boundaries but then lost patience and played across a straight ball. Ben and Griff looked to steady the ship until Ben was bowled for 4 with George and Thomas following in consecutive balls giving the bowler a hat trick. Robert struck 1 nice four but then edged one to the keeper and we lost the last 2 wickets thanks to 2 direct hit run outs leaving Griff 13 not out and our score a poor 64 all out. Yet again too many batsman failed to play straight and do not have the patience to stay in longer than 2 balls!!
Finley started with 2 maidens and took the early wicket we needed and Matthew took a catch off Griff to dismiss the next batsman followed by Finley's 2nd wicket leaving them 7-3. Their No 4 bat applied himself well and hit a couple of nice boundaries to get their score moving but at the other end Edward was demolishing the middle order clean bowling 3 in quick succession while Matthew bowled 3 very tight overs. Will then bowled a little too short while Harry delivered 2 tight overs to keep the pressure on but it was Griff that produced the critical blow beating their best batsman in the flight as he was bowled for 26 leaving them on 59-8 with 2 overs left. Edward produced another fast ball to remove the No.10 and finishing with 4 overs 4wkts for 8 runs and it was left to Matthew to bowl the last over. He was too quick for the last man who was out to a simple caught and bowled with them 3 short.
This was a positive bowling display but we definitely need to improve our batting with tougher opposition to come.
