St Margaretsbury v BSCC U13

Skipper opted to field first after winning the toss against a strong team who beat us twice last year. Sam and Samuel started well bowling accurately with Samuel Caton being rewarded with an early wicket bowling the opener. They took the score to 40 after 7 overs when Vishal took a brilliant 1 handed catch off Edward to remove the other opener. Matthew and Griff continued our tight bowling and the middle order folded against the off spin from Griff Horrell who ended with 3-10 from 4 overs, with 2 more good catches from Finley and Archie, who performed very well as stand in wicketkeeper. Finley Ward, on his debut, bowled very straight and picked up a well deserved wicket in his 3 overs. We only conceded 17 extras and restricted them to 95-6 off 20 overs.
Toby and Edward started cautiously on a poor wicket but the innings gathered pace as both hit 2 good boundaries each with Edward brilliantly caught for 12 with the score on 46, and Toby fell just after but they had laid a good foundation. Matthew and Archie consolidated our reply and applied the acceleration at the right time with a series of fours and quick singles and despite losing Matthew late on it was left to Archie to smash the winning boundary with 1 over to spare - thoroughly good performance all round. Two matches next week at home so hopefully we can take this standard forward for the season.
