Despite a loss in our first game there has been promise shown particularly from our new players to the club. We started poorly with the ball and allowed Broxbourne to get a bit of a flyer with 36 off the first 4 overs. That combined with a couple of dropped catches allowed the opposition to reach the imposing target of 134, which was always going to be tough. There were some good bowling performances in the middle from Harry, Mason, Lushan, and William Palmer-Fenny who got a wicket with his first ball of the season! Jack Fraser- Andrews also bowled well and got a wicket in his first over removing one of their dangerous batsmen when he was caught by Isaac.
In response we started really well with Mason (26) looking very assured clipping a lovely six off his hip and into the trees - lost ball. As it turned out this did not help our cause, as the ball it was replaced with had no bounce being soft and old. Everyone who came to the wicket tried to keep the score moving and Dan Matthews had to retire on 30 having played a very good innings and holding the team together.
We were always slightly behind the rate and as a result fell short of the runs required. There is enough in the side to do really well this year, as long as we focus on the basics - bowling straight, fielding, batting, and running between wickets.
Lastly I would like to thank all the parents for attending and urge everyone to sign up for Pitchero to make mine and Sarah's life easier.
Thanks
