Bassingthwack!

The team travelled into deepest, darkest Essex for our game at Coggeshall, and were put into bat by the opposition. Against tight bowling, Adam Bassingthwaighte and Will Price got us off to a sound start, before Will departed for 9 in the fifth over.

From then on, Adam took centre stage. As batting partners came and went, he continued in his normal technically immaculate fashion, keeping the scoreboard ticking while wickets fell steadily at the other end. Indeed at 85-8 our innnings was in danger of being substantially below par, but thankfully Chris Millns chose the perfect time to display his undoubted batting ability, and joined Adam in a stand of 62 for the ninth wicket. With Charlie Finch also doing a good job at number 11, Adam shepherded us to a respectable 161 all out, finishing on a magnificent unbeaten 88.

This is the highest individual score anyone has posted for our side in four years of hard ball cricket, and provides a stiff target for our other batsmen to beat before the end of the season.

It was a different story with the ball, as everyone displayed consistency and discipline. Sam Gardner bowled another testing, hostile opening spell, taking the wicket of Spence for 16, and yet again Chris Millns' away swing proved potent, giving him an excellent return of 3-16. Wickets for Ben Warman, Will Price and Joe Burslem, and good catches from Zac Izod helped us dismiss our opponents for 103.

Once again we bowled and fielded well, and did the basics properly. Thanks must go to Jason Floros for taking the side in my absence and he was suitably impressed by the boys' display.
