Comfortable U14s win over Inexperienced Hitchin team!

BSCC overcame an inexperienced Hitchin team on a warm sunny evening, the sunshine and warmth made a welcome change!

With Hitchin waiting for the arrival of a couple of players we agreed they should bat first, which was our preferred option on a dry but green looking wicket.

Hitchin struggled throughout their innings thanks to our greater experience, but credit to them for amassing 250 despite losing wickets steadily throughout. It was really pleasing to watch how our players adapted their lines and the field when a batsman did start to accumulate a few runs. It showed good cricket knowledge, which they’ve picked up really quickly over the last year or so.

In reply Evan and Joe S-J got us off to a steady start despite losing their wicket a couple of times to Hitchin’s stronger bowlers. Will and Aaron batted sensibly to edge us towards the Hitchin total losing only one wicket to an excellent catch at deep square leg. Sam and Tom M really took hold of the Hitchin bowling, Sam in particular batting beautifully exploiting the gaps with proper cricket shots for a well made 36. Harrison and Luca continued the dominance to take our total to 300. Harrison hitting a couple of lovely cover drives for 4 and his first 6! Finally Tom C and Joe G saw us home with some sensible batting, losing no wickets in a partnership of 45 where the running between the wickets was a highlight.

All in all a comfortable win and a very enjoyable evening’s cricket. Credit to the skipper and the boys for how they conducted themselves against a side less experienced than them. A lot less chat in the field tonight!
