BSCC U14s unstoppable as Hertford take the full brunt!

BSCC won the toss and decided to bat - the pitch was firm, outfield fast and boundry short, so lot's of runs were on the cards for us again!

Batting highlights were Oli (43n.o.), Sam S (37) and Alex W (31n.o.). The boys played positively & freely, never getting bogged down. It was also good to see that if a batter failed, which sometimes happens, the others can pick up the mantle and not collapse. I therefore want the mid to lower order batsman to also get in some batting, hence the early retirements. It may now seem that we will breeze through this stage of the tournament, although we still have to play St Margretsbury. However, the opposition will be much tougher and we will be severely tested in the next rounds through to the finals. So we need to plan and use these matches to prepare!

Anyway, in this match BSCC U14s ended with a commanding 175/4 off 20 overs.

In reply, the Hertford boys batted bravely, but only managed 119/2. They survived 3 overs from James' menacing deliveries, without giving away their wicket. From the square-leg view though, I could see that every ball went over the wickets, so perhaps fuller and straighter deliveries may have brought James more reward. Harrison and Alex were the pick of the bowlers with a wicket each, whilst Sam's economy was the best at 2.5 runs per over!

I also liked Sam's tactics of moving fielders in and out to minimse their best batsman facing most of the deliveries - good thinking Sam! One criticism is that some fielders still don't know exactly where to stand and can drift. We tried to work on this in our last training session, but it seems we need to do another session on this.

All-in-all, a powerful performance by all the boys and may it continue to the end of this season - well done!
