BSCC U14s off to a flying start!

After winning the toss, BSCC U14s decided to bat first to avoid bad light later in this gloomy and cold April evening!

Dan (33 n.o.) and Oli (40 n.o.) were comfortable against the Cokenach attack. They were taking it a bit too casual, but then accelerated quickly when I said that I would retire them both early if they didn't pick up the pace! After a steady enough start we need to learn to move up the gears quickly if we want to put pressure on the opponents and place us in a commanding position, i.e. turning dots into 1s, 1s into 2s and 2s into boundries etc. This "Fearless cricket" is why England won the world cup!

Alex (30 n.o.) joined in the 13th over and batted with purpose at a strike rate of 150. James (18 n.o.) also hit some big blows at the end, taking the total to an impressive 168 runs without losing a single wicket.

BSCC confidence was high in the second innings, with everyone bowling and fielding well under the conditions, but only picking up a single wicket. There were also 21 wides and 13 no balls, which we must address going forwards. Everyone, apart from the keeper bowled, although Luca (3o-1w-17r) picked up the only wicket. The highlight of their innings was young Murray Christie who played well against all our bowlers, retiring at 40, but the team total only managed to creep up to 101 runs.

This is a good team with some strong players. With a little polish and direction, we should keep up this mometum as we progress further into the season. Also, Kudos to Andy for preparing such a batting paradise so early in the season!
