BSCC won the toss and put St Marg's in, knowing the conditions were condusive to swing and their captain was a pacey bowler, so better to make them bowl with an old ball - athough the plan backfired!
Although, we bowled strongly with James (3o-3r) and Harrison (3o-1w-16r), we failed to strike through the opp openers. Most deliveries were either too fast or swinging or both that they never got close to the ball! They attacked our middle over bowlers to get to a reasonable 122/6 on a poor wicket and with the field too close in for my liking. Anyway, Tom Combes (2o-2w-27r) picked up 2 wickets, whilst Dan and Alex picked up one each.
I still thought the total was reachable with our batting line-up, but we got undone by the wicket with the ball bouncing unpredictably, as we lost 7 out of our 9 wickets in catches! James was the pick of the batters with 26 runs, followed by Joe G with a steady 16. Everyone else struggled, even though Tom M finished the match with 2 boundries ending on 106/9.
TBH St Marg's bowlers did a good job and placed it in the right areas, letting the pitch do the rest. I'm sure the result will be different when we play them again at ours in July on a good pitch.
Our main focus now is the cup match against Saffron Walden on Sunday, where we can hopefully put some of the mistakes made today, right!
