U14s beat Colchester in Alastair Cook Trophy Quarter Final!

U14s beat Colchester in Alastair Cook Trophy Quarter Final today, in arguably our best ever performance as a team!

We won the toss and bowled first with skipper Ben Warren and Thomas Greenhill setting the tone excellently, with Ben taking the early wicket. Harry Pigram came on and clean bowled their No.3 which was a big early wicket. Colchester then put on a good partnership before Ben Foster took the huge wicket of their captain, well stumped by Henry Hawkins. Fossie took another wicket two balls later well caught by Jamie Ward. Ben Warren came back to take his second wicket before two late run outs as they tried to up the run rate. They finished with 85-7 off their twenty overs. Bar bowling a few too many wides, it was an exceptional effort in the field, with all 6 bowlers doing an outstanding job and everyone fielding well.

In response, we got off to a steady start until Thomas Greenhill (6) was bowled by a ball that stayed low. Henry Hawkins (28*) then combined with Ben Foster (17) for a very solid partnership as they both set themselves. Both lads batted very well until Ben was bowled by a yorker which meant we needed 36 off 8 overs. Just when things could’ve got tight, Harry Pigram came in at No.4 and hit 23* off 10 balls including a huge 6 over the road! We ended up comfortably winning by 8 wickets with 5.5 overs remaining.

It was a quality all round performance with everyone contributing in the field, and then a very convincing chase from the lads.

We now look forward for the Semi Final in a couple of weeks time!
