U14s makes Essex Cup Quarter Final!

Following yesterday’s excellent win against Loughton, we went to Saffron Walden today knowing a win would take us into the Essex cup quarter final. We won the toss and chose to bat first on a hard bouncy wicket.

That bounce proved to be very problematic for our top order as the two Saffron Walden opening bowlers ran through our top order leaving us 34-5 after 8 overs. Under a lot of pressure, Jamie Ward (16) and Ben Warren (42) combined for a fantastic partnership, with Ben Warren in particular putting the pressure back on Walden as he continuously peppered the boundary. Ben was well caught for a rapid 42 off 22 balls but Ollie Foot kept the innings going with a steady 13* whilst Ethan Baker (29*) came in at No.10 and hit a number of big hits to propel us to an extraordinary total of 160, having been 34-5 after 8 overs!

In response Ben Warren and Thomas Greenhill started excellently as Walden fell to 19-5 in the first 8 overs, with Ben Warren taking 1-9 and Thomas Greenhill taking 3-13 off their 4 overs respectively. Ben Foster came on and took 2 wickets in his first over which pretty much confirmed the win. The last 2 wickets fell to Harry Pigram, who clean bowled their best batsmen for 23 runs before Monty MacLeod took the final wicket. A big thanks to U12 member Monty who stepped up at the last minute to replace his brother who wasn’t well.

It was an incredible turnaround to win by nearly 100 runs having been 34-5 at one point, credit has to go to our lads for their positive attitude and belief!
We now look forward to the quarter final of the U14 Essex cup (Alastair Cook Trophy) in the next couple of weeks!
