BSCC U14s beat Broxbourne in tight finish!

Broxbourne batted first, with both openers looking solid before Thomas Greenhill made the breakthrough. That was quickly followed by two wickets from Ben Foster, who bowled beautifully, with both his wickets well finished by Henry Hawkins (one catch, one stumping). James Bayley and Harry Pigram came on and took a wicket each, before Ben Warren came back and took 2 wickets in 2 balls, including their best batsmen for 23. Lucas Dordoy took a wicket in the final over, well stumped again by Henry Hawkins, as Broxbourne finished 96-8 in their 20 overs.

In response, Broxbourne bowled and fielded excellently throughout, definitely the best attack we’ve faced this year. We battled hard in the first 12 overs for 47 runs, but still lost 4 wickets as our techniques were tested. Just as it seemed we were under serious pressure, skipper Charlie Laking stepped up and played a captains innings. He was supported by Harry Pigram who struck the ball well until he was caught by one of the best catches I’ve seen at U14 level. A sprinting diving catch right on the boundary to a ball that was hit very hard! It meant we needed 21 off the last 5 overs. Bertie Warnes came in and hit 3 big shots scoring 11 runs which effectively won us the game, alongside Charlie who finished 20*. It was a fantastic chase against a quality bowling attack.

I was particularly happy with our fielding and general team support/morale today! It means the A team are 4 wins out of 4, which is a great start. We now look forward to the U14 A v U14 B derby next Tuesday!
