In a highly anticipated derby match, U14 A won the toss and put the U14 B team in. Ben Warren set the tone with the ball early again taking 2 big wickets early on. Wickets continued to fall throughout the B team's innings however one player stood out, George Lello, who batted beautifully for his 33 at over a run ball. A mixture of glorious cover drive and hard pull shots against everything that the A team threw at him was a seriously impressive innings. He was ably supported by Oscar Gouldson (14). In the end, the B team were bowled out for 83 in 17 overs. The two picks in the bowling were Ben Warren and Jamie Ward who both took 2-4 in 2 overs.
In response, the U14 A team batted sensibly to reach the target reasonably comfortably. Charlie Laking (33*) and Thomas Greenhill (28*) put on a very solid 70 run partnership off 12 overs before both batsmen retired to allow others to have a bat. Henry Hawkins helped see the A team over the line with a steady 20*. Ben Foster and Zac Saunders were both caught off the bowling of Fraser Hardie and George Lello trying to score some quick late runs after the A team have passed the required score to win.
In the end, I was proud of both teams for putting on a good show. The B team did a lot of good things, they kept the bowling tight and fielded pretty well, however needed a few more runs to be really competitive. The also A team fielded well, taking most their chances, including a good run out by Omar Sain and a clever stumping from Henry Hawkins.
Thanks to Pete Curtis and Colin Greenhill for umpiring the game!
We now look forward to the B team going away to North Enfield next Monday and the A team hosting Broxbourne next Tuesday.
