Welwyn Win Final Match

A late match report but worth the read if not for the result.

There was a slim hope that a win for our U14's at Welwyn might just allow us to scrape into the QF draw. But the league table was updated 24 hrs earlier to show this match had no baring on the QF permutations.

The game had all the hallmarks of an end of season fixture with Welwyn able to dominate all aspects of the game - batting, bowling & fielding.

The wicket and outfield was the quickest of the season which put our players on the back foot. Despite a first over wicket for Max the first 6 overs went for 56 under as the Welwyn top order played their shots to all parts. Our fielding wilting slightly the barrage and the very quick outfield.

Once the Welwyn opener had retired on 40 we did start to pick up wickets to restrict the run rate - so all told - the fightback by taking 7 wickets was impressive. Max 3 for 30, Sam 2 for 12 and Murray 1 or 11 were the wicket takers as Welwyn finished on 145.

In reply our innings never got going in chasing a par score. The opening attack bowled full and straight and accounted for our top order. An unfortunate run out of Benji at the non-strikers end compounding the situation.

As Welwyn switched the bowling around Josh (17), Themiya (12*), Sam (14 ) and Archie (9*) enjoyed themselves with in the late sunshine. With 50 extras we finished on 122 for 7.

The match was played in a good spirit as they have been all season.
