A second victory against St Margaretsbury has kick started the season as we stand Played 5 Won 2 Lost 3.
We have 3 games to go in our division and need positive results to make the QF's.
The win was set up by 2 excellent batting performances and an opening bowling double-act that put St. M's on the back foot.
Batting first, Stortford relied on a 60 run 3rd wicket partnership between Benji and Kieran that ended with Benji's retirement having completed a dominant 43 in the 10th over. Kieran batted on and took the score passed 100 with the help of the lower order. We lost wickets regularly but Kieran held the innings together with an excellent 41. A quickfire 13 from Max helped boost the total and we ended on 136 for 6.
We talked at 1/2 time and all agreed that 136 was a par score on such a good wicket and that the early overs were key to controlling the St. M's reply.
And they delivered.
After 5 overs the opposition were 9 for 2 with Kieran (1/2) and Max (1/13) each taking a quick wicket.
And despite a flurry of boundaries in the next 5 overs to take St. M's to 60, Stortford re-applied the pressure with wickets for Benji (2/7) and our spinners - Ben (1/4), Archie (2/7).
Ten of the boys bowled with St. Margaretsbury finishing on 102 for 7
A good positive performance played in a good spirit, let's take this into our next game (Mon 4th June @ home to WGC)
