Having won the toss and chosen to bat first Euan Thomas blasted 50 not out in less than 7 overs including 2 large sixes. After his retirement we lost all our momentum and 5 quick wickets dented our scoring. A quick flourish from Liam Sumner (19 not out) and Adam Crowther in the last 4 overs got us to an acceptable 124-5 at the close - much less than Euan's incredible knock promised.
Our normal consistent bowling failed to appear allowing the Sawbridgeworth batsmen to recover well from Henry Hudson's early wicket. Our failure to hold on to several catches (some easy and some very difficult) meant the finish was going to be close. The two opposition batsmen retired on 50, followed by a run out from a direct hit from Liam Sumner and another wicket for Hudson which increased the tension but ultimately our fielding badly let us down on a late cold evening and we lost with an over left.
The team need to focus and concentrate harder in the field if we are to improve next time.
