BSCC U15 A beat WGC in the rain

BSCC U15 A went to Welwyn Garden City last night with a young team, as the majority of the U15s unavailable for a number of reasons.

We lost the toss and were asked to bowl. We set the tone well and bowled very tightly for the first 12 overs with Thomas Greenhill making the early breakthrough and Bertie Warnes taking a caught and bowled shortly after. WGC then put on a strong 65 partnership, with two late wickets going to James Frans and Tom Combes. They finished on 107-4 in their 20 overs. We should’ve taken more wickets but our catching was very poor, however that was the first time this has happened this season so hopefully it’s a one off.

In response, we had a poor start losing 2 wickets in the first couple of overs. Ben Warren came in hit three 4s before being extremely well caught for 13. Charlie Laking also played a couple of lovely shots before being caught gloving down the leg side. Whilst there was chaos at the other end, Ben Foster played a very composed innings, ensuring he stayed there to provide the innings some backbone. He was joined eventually by Alex Warren at 55-5 with us still needing another 53 runs. Thankfully Ben (35*) and Alex (24*) both batted superbly, not giving WGC another chance as they knocked off the runs with 3.3 overs to spare. As we needed 10 runs to win, the heavens opened up and we got absolutely soaked for 5 mins until Alex hit a 6 to win the game and we all sprinted off.

It was a decent overall performance, particularly with the bat from Ben F and Alex W. I want to thank the U14s who came in and did well when we were very short.
