Tense cup match saw BSCC U15s narrowly beat St Margs for the first WIN of 2023!

BSCC won the toss and decided to bat first on a clear, but cool May evening.

Henry (33ret) and Ollie (12) started briskly with a 31 run partnership off 6 overs. James (19) kept up the momentum hitting 4 quick boundaries. Dan (10) timed it well enough, but mostly to fielders, whilst Sam (5) was unfortunate to be caught at mid-on. Things got entertaining when Alex (15n.o.) and Dan began to take cheeky singles and playing unorthodox strokes. But, there was enough energy to take the score to a respectful 133/5.

The second half started well with James (4o-17r-0w) and Harrison (2o-8r-0w) keeping things tight. The oppo batters struggled to get their bats anywhere near James' missiles! In my view, the field positions were aggressive and there was a lot of banter, almost as if the result was in the bag! However, their numbers 2, 3 and 4 batters got steady 29n.o., 23 and 31 ret, respectively, to keep things interesting right to the end.

Spinners, Luca (2o-11r-1w), Sam (4o-14r-0w) and Will S (2o-13r-1w), bowled well, as the banter seemed to disappear in the final 5 overs. Super proud of Will F (2o-21r-0w) and Tom (3o-23r-2w) who bowled these overs, keeping composure against some aggressive batting. St Margs needed 14 runs off the final over and the batter launched the first ball for 6. The next ball went for 2, although there was 1 short run, so we needed 7 off the final 4 balls. Tom then bowled brilliantly to pick up 2 wickets and 2 dot balls, as the new rule where the new batters face, helped us greatly! We ended by winning by 5 runs.

An exciting finish and well done to all the boys for winning the first match of the 2023 season! Let's keep up the momentum on our next two league matches; Reed (away) on Monday and Hertford (home) on Tuesday, next week.
