Hard fought loss against Radlett in County Semi Finals

A home draw for finals day today left us feeling confident and up for a fight. Radeltt won the toss and elected to bat. Will H and James opened up the bowling and kept the batsmen reasonably tight for the first 6 overs but we failed to make a break through with wickets. Josh and Jake were next pair up and we started to make some impact with this pair taking 4 wickets between them and the opposition were pegged back a little. Tegid took a lovely catch on the boundary off Josh’s bowling and Jake got 3 wickets for 14 runs. They didn’t appear to play full tosses very well!! At 12 overs the opposition were 71-4 and the game looked well balanced. But things got away from us a little from there and the last 8 overs brought another 70 runs, Alex being the only other bowler to pick up a wicket. Still at 141 off 20 overs the game seemed well placed for a grand finish.

Damien and JP opened the batting. With JP being bowled in the third over we had made a modest start and were 15 off the first 4 overs. Tegid and Damien started a solid partnership of 23 but we were still struggling against the run rate when Tegid was out in the 8th over. Damien eventually retired on 40 not out and from here the middle order struggled for runs and run rate and we soon found ourselves at 71 for 6 with only 5 overs remaining. Needing 70 off 5 overs was going to be a near to impossible task, but batting 8 and 9, Jake and James put up some defence and knocked it around well with Jake finishing on 24 not out off 13 balls. We finished on 105 for 8 which was a shame. If we had been at our best we would have had a very strong chance of beating Radlett but it wasn’t to be today. Well done to all. Proud of yet another strong performance this season.
