Two well matched sides produced a thrilling finish on a hot Friday evening. Chasing St Margaretsbury's total of 121 for 4 it came down to 15 needed to win from the last over. With a last ball 4 hit by Freddie Chapman the game was tied. Phew!
It was a great finish set up by a fine 42 (retired) from opener Tom Howes who was well supported by Arthur (14), Ed (18) and Jake (11no).
The St Margaretsbury innings was built around a good opening partnership and then picked up a quicker tempo in the final 5 overs. The bowling workload was shared with wickets for James Gilbert 2 for 7, Freddie Hickey 1 for 11 and Freddie Chapman 1 for 34. The Stortford fielding and encouragement in the field was good.
We had the misfortune to give away 5 penalty runs when the ball hit the helmet behind the keeper - this in a total of 35 extras.
The game was played in a good spirit and it was great to see the celebrations from our side when the last ball hit the boundary!
