An excellent partnership of 132 between Ballard (111) and Chatfield (52) paved the way for a competitive total of 237. Only 3 other batsmen reached double figures with 1.4 overs of the 50 not used as untimely wickets restricted the hosts.
In reply Townsend bowled well up front to restrict Letchworth to 48-3 including a sharp direct hit run out (the marquee loved that). Letchworth's (no 4) brought them back into the game but eventually fell to S.Lindop. The big hitting Letchworth overseas kept the game interesting until he was caught on the boundary by Reed off Mel Hussain. The visitors fell behind the scoring rate and a disciplined fielding display with good catches taken by Matt Rodgers, Ru (in the slips!) and Towner - yes Towner kept our marquee in good voice as we saw out a comfortable first league win of the season. With a very good keeping performance by Sam Franks and bowling figures of Lindop 4-29, Hussain 2-35, Townsend 2-31, Palmer 1-31 the 1st XI can look forward to their trip to North Mymms.
