Sunday 2nd June, U12’s away game at Berkhamsted.
Bishop’s Stortford captain Alicia Pyle called tails for Stortford and chose to bowl first in Sunday’s game away at Berkhamsted. Stortford were one player short and unfortunately had to borrow a fielder from the opposition. This certainly didn’t help Stortford as their fielder was not able to stop two of the three 4’s hit in the first innings. Our first two bowlers were Wanasta and Elizabeth who bowled tightly with a wicket for Elizabeth in their last over, leaving the score at 212. Next to bowl were Malli and Marie, Malli delivered a brilliant maiden over and between the pair only conceded 10 runs. Despite Javeria taking a wicket and Alicia’s maiden over, we lost out due to a weakness in the fielding and their more daring batsmen. Berkhamsted finished on 271.
The second innings was nail-biting stuff, we saw three wickets, three 4’s batted by Wanasta, two 4’s by Marie and one by Maili. Javeria and Mali ended on 201, Wanasta and Elizabeth on 228, Marie and Malli 248, and the final pair Alicia and Kate saw us home intotalling 279.
A lovely setting and a well-deserved win for the girls! A point to note is to get to the nets when possible and keep practising the bowling as we did give away 14 wides ……although this was still less than the opposition! Well played all!
