It was a comfortable win tonight at Hoddesdon in the U13 Summer League.
We lost the toss and were asked to bowl. We were on top from ball one with tight bowling from Paddy Ainsworth-Ledwidge and Harry Pigram. Ben Foster (3 wickets) and Bertie Warnes (1 wicket) continued the excellent bowling to get them 39-4. There were then wickets for Omar Sain, Jamie Ward (2) and a first A team wicket for Herbie MacLeod. We continued to dominate all the way up until the 16th over where they were 77-9 when we missed a simple run out chance. Disappointingly, we then lost our standards and discipline, and bowled and fielded very poorly to allow them to get to 107.
Fortunately it wasn’t going to cost us as they’re bowling wasn’t the strongest and our batsmen were up to the task of putting the bad balls away. Ben Foster got an excellent 26* retired, before Harry Pigram unfortunately picked out deep mid wicket to be caught fourth ball. Jamie Ward got 12, including a 6, before playing onto his stumps. Bertie Warnes came in and finished it off with a quick 10*. Charlie Laking batted the innings for an uncharacteristic, but important knock of 17* in 32 balls.
Overall, it was a very solid performance and we will take confidence into the BSCC derby on Sunday!
