The U14s started with a excellent performance to beat one of their main rivals in the opening game. We lost the toss and were asked to bat first which assisted us as their opening bowlers were very wayward and we took full advantage. Arthur was unfortunate to be bowled off his pads but Liam and Edward made great progress with good running and well hit boundaries. Liam was eventually retired not out 40 with a good score guaranteed and Toby (7 not out) joined Edward (35 not out) to push us to 131-1 at the close. Sam and Samuel opened the bowling for us and kept things very tight for 6 overs conceding only 18 runs. We then introduced spin and both Griff and James took an early wicket as they looked to accelerate. After a decent partnership Liam was brought on and took a wicket with his first ball and with the light fading we finished using only spin and James took his second wicket on his debut with Hertford falling short by 20 runs. This was a confident start and hopefully sets us up for a successful campaign.
