1.1. Bishop’s Stortford Cricket Club (BSCC) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of behaviour and conduct. This Code of Conduct incorporates the ECB Code of Conduct and Spirit of Cricket Regulations and applies both on and off the field to all matches played.
2.1. This policy applies to players and members of BSCC.
2.2. Full copies of ECB, Saracens Herts League, Herts and Essex Cricket League, and Womens Cricket Southern League policies are available if required. All players must comply with these policies in addition to this code of conduct. All players and members should also comply with BSCC’s additional policies such as; The Child Welfare Policy and The Drug Policy, which are available on our website.
3.1.1. Ensuring that at all times play is conducted within the Spirit of Cricket as well as within the Laws. Players are responsible for their own discipline but Captains must accept responsibility for managing the tone on the field of play.
3.1.2. Introduce themselves to the Umpires and opposition captain, ensure they are made to feel welcome and conditions of play are understood.
3.1.3. Ensure the well-being and safety of any junior players in their team in accordance with the ECB’s Safe Hands-Cricket’s Policy for Safeguarding Children.
3.1.4. Should an incident occur the Captain will clarify the situation immediately or at the next interval with the umpires or opposition captain.
3.1.5. The captain or a designated player ensure the umpires are entertained after the game
3.1.6. Liaise with the umpires and opposition captain regarding match conditions and formats in addition to the groundsman during home games.
3.2.1. At all times act in a manner consistent with the ECB/League Rules and this code of conduct.
3.2.2. At all times accept the umpire’s decision. Players must not show dissent at the umpire’s decision or react in a provocative or disapproving manner towards another player or a spectator.
3.2.3. Act in manner consistent with the stature of BSCC including when using social media, including when messaging other members of BSCC, avoid sending any messages which contain offensive or inappropriate content.
3.2.4. Shall not intimidate or assault an umpire, another player or a spectator.
3.2.5. Shall not make racially abusive comments nor indulge in racially abusive actions against fellow players, officials, members and supporters. There must be no discrimination on the grounds of age, gender, disability, race, ethnic origin, nationality, colour, parental or marital status, religious belief, class or social background, sexual preference or political belief.
3.2.6. Players and team officials shall not use crude and/or abusive language (known as
“sledging”) nor make offensive gestures or hand signals nor deliberately distract an opponent.
3.2.7. No player may leave the match before its conclusion unless prior agreement of the
captain has been obtained.
3.2.8. Follow the captain’s instructions in the event the game is paused/delayed in the event of rain or any other disturbance.
3.2.9. Thank the opposition and umpires after the game, by shaking hands and clapping the opposition off the pitch.
3.2.10. During home games make an effort to entertain the opposition.
3.2.11. Pay all match fees and subs promptly.
3.3.1. Behave in a positive manner towards players, umpires and other spectators not condone, or allow to go unchallenged, any form of discrimination if witnessed.
3.3.2. Encourage all participants to learn the Laws and rules and play within them, respecting the decisions of match officials.
3.3.3. Recognise good performance not just match results.
3.3.4. Promote the positive aspects of Cricket e.g. fair play.
4. Player Availability
4.1. Players must inform a member of the Cricket Selection Committee no later than 6pm on Monday evening of their availability for the next match.
4.2. Players who become unavailable after teams have been selected must inform the captain of the team for which they have been selected immediately and by phone or in person.
4.3. Captains will inform players of their selection within their team as soon as possible but no later than 9pm on Wednesday unless otherwise agreed with the Chairman of Selectors.
4.4. Any issues or players being dropped must be discussed in person or telephone conversation.
5. Junior players in senior games
5.1. Juniors and their parents will be informed of the requirement of the game including any necessary transport arrangements for the game.
5.2. Any junior of an under 13 must have a signed ‘Parental Consent and Waiver’ signed before they play in a senior cricket game.
6.1. Any breach of this code or league rules will be discussed by the Cricket Sub Committee and it will take the necessary action which may include but not limited to;
6.1.1. Playing ban (actual or suspended)
6.1.2. Written apology from the player in question
6.1.3. Selection of player in a lower team.
6.2. Any instances of breaches of this or other league rules should be reported to the captain or Chairman of Selectors.
